New Delhi, 21 July (H.S.): Delhi Police on Tuesday detained Congress leaders, including Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, during a protest near the Prime Minister’s residence against the alleged police action on students in connection with the NEET question paper leak issue.

The protest, led by Rahul Gandhi, was attended by several Congress MPs, Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan and Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar. Samajwadi Party president Akhilesh Yadav also reached the protest site later.

Congress leaders were marching towards the Prime Minister’s residence to protest against the use of police force against students. However, police stopped the protesters a short distance away from the Prime Minister’s residence, following which Congress leaders sat in protest. The police subsequently detained the leaders and took them to a police station in buses.

Earlier, Rahul Gandhi appealed to people to join the protest near the Prime Minister’s residence. In a post on X, he wrote that an attack on students was an attack on every Indian family and that Prime Minister Narendra Modi would have to answer.

During the protest, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh and Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan reached the protest site and held discussions with Rahul Gandhi. Congress leaders demanded the resignation of the Prime Minister, Home Minister and Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Several Congress workers were also detained by police during the demonstration.
