Guwahati, July 21 (HS): In view of the severe flooding in and around Simaluguri town of Assam's Sivasagar district, the Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has introduced several additional special trains to assist passengers stranded due to disruption of rail services.
Train operations between the Simaluguri–Namtiali and Simaluguri–Selenghat sections under the Tinsukia Division have been suspended for safety reasons. Consequently, several long-distance trains to and from Dibrugarh and Tinsukia have been diverted via the Rangiya–Rangapara–Dibrugarh route, while some services have been short-terminated, short-originated and a few cancelled.
To ease passenger inconvenience, NFR operated Train No. 05934 (Mariani–New Tinsukia) One-Way Special on Monday. The train departed Mariani at 12:15 am and is scheduled to reach New Tinsukia at 9:00 pm via Guwahati, Rangiya, North Lakhimpur and Dibrugarh, halting at several important stations along the route.
Additionally, two pairs of special trains are being operated between Lumding and Mariani Junction. Another special pair is running between Rangiya and Mariani Junction to facilitate the movement of stranded passengers. These trains will stop at all stations along their respective routes.
According to NFR, the additional special train services will continue until next Friday and are expected to provide major relief to passengers affected by the flood-related disruption. Regular services of certain express trains between Mariani and Guwahati are also being maintained to ensure connectivity in the affected region.------------
