
Kolkata, July 17 (HS): West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Friday expressed deep grief over the tragic collision between a train and a school vehicle at the Gobindpur level crossing near Karnasubarna station on the Azimganj–Katwa railway section in Murshidabad district, which claimed the lives of five people, including three school students.
In a post on X, the Chief Minister described the incident as heartbreaking and extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, especially the parents of the deceased children. He said no words could ease the pain of such an irreparable loss and assured that the entire state stands with the grieving families.
Adhikari directed the administration to provide all possible assistance to the injured and the affected families. He said Minister Gourishankar Ghosh had already visited the hospital to review the situation, while the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police have been monitoring rescue and relief operations at the site since morning.
He also stated that all injured victims were being provided the best possible medical treatment under the personal supervision of Health Minister Dr. Sharadwat Mukhopadhyay to ensure there was no lapse in healthcare services.
The Chief Minister said negligence in the incident would not be tolerated under any circumstances. He informed that the state police had arrested the railway gatekeeper and that a thorough investigation had been ordered to ascertain the circumstances leading to the accident. He assured that those found responsible would face the strictest legal action.
Praying for eternal peace for the deceased, Adhikari reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring justice and full support for the victims' families.
