New Delhi, 16 July (H.S.): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday arrested Anurag Danayak, Managing Director of Karnataka Antibiotics and Pharmaceuticals Limited (KAPL), Bengaluru, after allegedly catching him red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 5 lakh.

According to the CBI, Danayak had allegedly demanded a total bribe of around Rs 15 lakh from an authorised service agent firm based in Bhopal. The alleged payment was sought in exchange for approving the service agent agreement, clearing applications for the addition of new institutions, and securing a share of the commission earned from the sale of medicines during the current financial year. He was apprehended in Noida while allegedly accepting Rs 5 lakh, which was part of the total bribe demand.

Following the arrest, the CBI conducted searches at Danayak's residence and office premises in Bengaluru, Noida, and Jabalpur. During the searches, investigators recovered approximately Rs 75 lakh in cash, foreign currency valued at around Rs 4 lakh, 697 grams of gold jewellery and gold coins worth nearly Rs 86 lakh, and property documents related to a residential flat.

The investigation into the case is currently underway.
