Bhubaneswar, 10 July (H.S.): The Odisha Transport Department has intensified its enforcement drive against vehicles operating without valid fitness certificates, permits and insurance, seizing more than 100 vehicles across the state over the past two days.

The statewide crackdown is aimed at removing unfit vehicles from the roads and ensuring strict compliance with the provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act.

The vehicles seized during the operation include passenger buses, school and college buses, pickup vans, JCB machines and several other commercial vehicles found violating transport regulations. Enforcement teams and Regional Transport Offices (RTOs) have been conducting inspections at multiple locations across the state.

During the drive, officials are verifying fitness certificates, route permits, insurance documents, tax records and other mandatory papers. Vehicles operating without valid documents or with expired fitness certificates are being detained on the spot.

Transport officials said the initiative is focused on enhancing road safety by preventing unfit vehicles from plying on public roads. They added that the inspections are also intended to ensure commercial vehicle operators adhere to all statutory requirements under the Motor Vehicles Act.

The Transport Department has warned that vehicle owners violating transport regulations will face strict action. Depending on the nature of the offence, vehicles are being seized and legal proceedings initiated against the owners in accordance with the Motor Vehicles Act.
