Srinagar, 30 June (H.S.): Chairman of the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly Committee on Environment and CPI (M) MLA M Y Tarigami today appealed to all Deputy Commissioners and the Jammu & Kashmir administration to make the Union Territory completely free from single-use plastic.

In a press handout issued, the MLA also welcomed the Deputy Commissioner Kulgam's decision to strictly enforce the ban on single-use plastic and polythene carry bags in the district through a public notice.

Tarigami termed the initiative a significant step towards environmental protection.

He recalled that during the Committee on Environment meeting held on June 18, 2026, the Committee had urged Chief Minister Omar Abdullah to issue an executive order imposing a complete ban on single-use plastic across Jammu & Kashmir, emphasizing that coordinated action is essential to safeguard the environment and public health
