New Delhi, 30 June (H.S.): Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan will undertake a two-day visit to the Northeast to assess the flood situation. Chouhan will leave New Delhi on Tuesday and hold a high-level review meeting in Guwahati, Assam, before visiting flood-affected areas of Arunachal Pradesh on July 1 to assess the ground situation firsthand.

The Ministry of Agriculture said on Tuesday that, under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Central Government is closely monitoring the flood situation in the affected states and is committed to accelerating relief and rehabilitation efforts through on-ground assessments and timely decision-making. In view of the serious flood situation in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh, Prime Minister Modi has directed Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to undertake an immediate field review.

According to the official schedule, Chouhan will depart from New Delhi on June 30 and arrive in Guwahati the same day to chair a high-level meeting with senior officials of the Assam Government. The meeting will review the impact of floods on crops, villages, and infrastructure in Assam and adjoining areas, assess the progress of ongoing relief operations, and discuss further measures required to address the situation.

Following the Assam review, Chouhan will visit flood-affected regions of Arunachal Pradesh on July 1. During the visit, he will conduct both aerial and ground surveys to assess the condition of flood-affected villages, agricultural fields, and relief camps.

The Union Minister will also interact directly with affected farmers, local residents, women's groups, and youth to understand the effectiveness of relief measures already provided and identify the immediate assistance still required.

Later the same day, Chouhan will hold meetings with ministers of the Arunachal Pradesh Government, senior officials, and other public representatives. The discussions will focus on assessing crop losses, compensation and crop insurance payments for affected farmers, restoration of flood-damaged roads, bridges, and embankments, and strategies for rebuilding rural infrastructure in the affected areas.
