Guwahati, June 30 (HS): The Assam government on Tuesday said it is shifting towards an integrated and scientific flood management approach to build long-term resilience, describing floods as a basin-wide Himalayan river management challenge rather than an Assam-specific issue.
State spokesperson Meeta Nath Bora said the government is strengthening embankments, erosion control and drainage infrastructure while implementing major river basin management projects using scientific data, modern technology and climate-resilient strategies. She added that nearly 40% of Assam's geographical area is flood-prone, making sustainable flood management a key priority for the state.
