NEW DELHI, June 3 (HS): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday highlighted the power of civic unity and collective cooperation through a message posted on his X handle. Sharing a Sanskrit subhashitam, he said that unity among citizens significantly strengthens the nation and enables it to attain the highest levels of progress and development.
Quoting a verse from the Mahabharata, the Prime Minister wrote:
Dhūmāyante vyapetāni jvalanti sahitāni cha,
Dhṛtarāṣṭrolmukānīva jñātayo bharatarṣabha.
In his post, Prime Minister Modi stated, “When citizens are bound together by the spirit of unity and mutual cooperation, the strength of the nation multiplies manifold. It is through this collective resolve of the people of India that the country is touching new heights of progress and advancement every day.”
The verse cited by the Prime Minister is from the Udyoga Parva (Prajagara Parva) of the Mahabharata and is widely regarded as a profound reflection on the importance of unity and collective strength.
The shloka underscores the power of organization and togetherness. It conveys that just as pieces of wood burn weakly when separated but blaze brightly when gathered together, members of a family, community, or society become far stronger when united. The verse teaches that when people set aside their differences and work collectively, they can overcome even the greatest challenges and adversities with ease.
The Prime Minister’s message emphasized that social cohesion, cooperation, and a shared national purpose remain vital pillars of India’s continued growth and development.
