New Delhi, 29 June (H.S.): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National General Secretary Tarun Chugh on Monday took oath as a Member of the Rajya Sabha. Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan administered the oath of office and secrecy to him in the House. Chugh assumed office as a member of the Upper House after being elected unopposed from Madhya Pradesh. Six other newly elected members also took oath alongside him.

Before the oath-taking ceremony, Tarun Chugh paid his respects at the entrance of Parliament House, expressing his reverence for what he described as the highest temple of Indian democracy. Earlier in the day, he visited Gurdwara Rakab Ganj Sahib in New Delhi and offered prayers to seek blessings.

Notably, Tarun Chugh was elected unopposed to the Rajya Sabha from Madhya Pradesh. He received his certificate of election on June 11, 2026. With the oath-taking, he formally assumed his parliamentary responsibilities as a member of the Upper House.

A senior BJP leader, Tarun Chugh currently serves as the party's National General Secretary. Hailing from Amritsar in Punjab, he has remained actively involved in organisational politics for several decades. He began his public life at a young age by associating with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and later played an active role in the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP). Between 1989 and 1994, he served as District Secretary and a member of the ABVP State Executive.

In 1993, he became the District President of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) in Amritsar. He later served as the Punjab BJYM President and as a member of the organisation's National Executive. To mobilise and engage young people with the party, he also led the 2,100-kilometre-long 'Yuva Chetna Yatra'.

Within the BJP organisation, Chugh has held several key positions, including State Secretary, General Secretary of the Punjab BJP, and currently National General Secretary. He is presently the party's in-charge for Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Telangana, and the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. In addition, he has been appointed co-in-charge of the Delhi BJP. Owing to his active role in organisational expansion, election strategy, and booth-level management, he is regarded as one of the party's key strategists.
