Caracas/New Delhi, 29 June (H.S.): Senior Venezuelan government officials on Monday visited the Indian Army's Field Hospital established under Operation Amistad, India's humanitarian assistance mission launched in response to the devastating earthquakes that struck the South American nation.

The visiting delegation included Venezuela's Vice Health Minister and the Head of Government of the Capital District of Venezuela. The officials interacted with Indian Army doctors and medical personnel, reviewed the medical facilities, and appreciated the treatment and emergency healthcare being provided to earthquake-affected people.

The Indian Field Hospital, staffed by a 41-member medical contingent from the Indian Army, has been delivering emergency medical care, trauma treatment, surgical assistance and other essential healthcare services to those injured in the disaster. The medical team is working closely with Venezuelan authorities to support ongoing relief and rehabilitation efforts.

Operation Amistad, launched by the Government of India on Friday, is a humanitarian assistance and disaster relief mission aimed at supporting Venezuela following the powerful earthquakes that caused widespread destruction and heavy loss of life. Two Indian Air Force C-17 Globemaster aircraft transported the Army Field Hospital, medical personnel, medicines, advanced medical equipment, portable BHISHM Cube hospitals and more than 35 tonnes of relief supplies to the affected country.

Indian Army doctors have been treating patients round the clock, providing emergency consultations, trauma management and critical medical support to affected communities. The field hospital has become an important part of the international humanitarian response, helping ease the burden on local healthcare facilities damaged or overwhelmed by the disaster.

The visit by the senior Venezuelan officials highlighted the close coordination between the two countries during the relief operation and reflected Venezuela's appreciation for India's swift humanitarian response. Indian authorities have said Operation Amistad demonstrates the country's commitment to standing with partner nations during times of crisis and reinforces its role as a reliable first responder in global humanitarian emergencies.
