Nitin Gadkari Reviews 3,245-km National Highway Network in Jharkhand


New Delhi, 29 June (H.S.): Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Monday conducted a comprehensive review of the quality and maintenance of 3,245 kilometres of National Highways in Jharkhand after taking cognisance of feedback received through media and social media platforms. The review meeting, held at the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, was attended by senior officials of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and various executing agencies.

During the meeting, the Union Minister emphasised the timely execution of National Highway projects, adherence to high construction standards, and the extensive use of modern technologies. He said durable, safe and high-quality highways are essential for improving connectivity, promoting economic growth and ensuring greater convenience for road users.

Gadkari issued clear directions that there should be no compromise whatsoever on the quality of construction and maintenance of National Highways. He instructed officials to ensure that all works are carried out strictly in accordance with prescribed technical standards while maintaining transparency and accountability in every project. According to the Minister, road infrastructure is one of the key pillars of the country's overall development.

Keeping the ongoing monsoon season in view, Gadkari also stressed the need for special preparedness. He directed officials to formulate effective strategies in advance to address waterlogging, road damage, potholes and other potential issues. He further instructed them to strengthen rapid response mechanisms, ensure regular monitoring, and carry out timely repair and maintenance works.

The Union Minister said maintaining road safety during the monsoon and ensuring the long-term durability of highways should remain the highest priority. He called for the adoption of modern technological solutions, continuous inspections and a robust quality maintenance system to achieve these objectives.

The meeting also reviewed the current status of Jharkhand's National Highway network, the progress of various construction and maintenance projects, and pending works. Gadkari directed the concerned agencies to take necessary corrective measures, expedite project execution, and ensure the availability of safer and better road infrastructure for commuters.
