Dhemaji (Assam), 29 June (HS): Severe flooding has disrupted normal life in Assam's Dhemaji district, with more than 70 villages inundated and over 16,000 people affected as rising floodwaters continue to wreak havoc across the region.
According to the official sources on Monday, the flood situation has severely impacted road connectivity, leaving several areas cut off. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as rescue and relief measures continue in the affected localities.
In view of the worsening flood crisis, Assam Cabinet Ministers Sushanta Borgohain and Keshab Mahanta are on their way to Dhemaji to assess the ground situation and review relief operations.
Meanwhile, the Chile River has assumed a destructive form in Jonai, inundating more than 10 villages. The swollen river also breached the Malbhog Guide Bund, causing extensive damage.
Floodwaters have submerged several hundred hectares of agricultural land, raising concerns over heavy crop losses and further aggravating the hardships of residents in the affected villages.----------
