Thrissur, 29 June (H.S.):A 23-year-old woman from Thrissur, who was declared brain dead after suffering critical injuries in a road accident, will give a new lease of life to several patients after her family consented to donate her organs.
Naomi Vincent, a native of Pullanikad near Wadakkanchery, had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram since she sustained severe head injuries in a collision between the car she was travelling in and a parcel lorry near Valakom in Kottarakkara on May 25. Doctors later confirmed brain death, following which her family signed the consent forms for organ donation.
The accident occurred around 4 a.m. while Naomi was travelling to Thiruvananthapuram with her mother, Gypsy, and younger brother Joel. She was on her way to join her first job after completing her postgraduate degree in Psychology from St. Thomas College, Thrissur.
Following the accident, Naomi was initially admitted to Vijay Hospital in Kottarakkara before being shifted to KIMS Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram for advanced treatment. Despite intensive medical care, she could not be saved. Her mother and brother, who were also injured in the crash, survived.
A talented Kho Kho player, Naomi had also appeared in the Malayalam film 'Kho Kho', starring Rajisha Vijayan.
She is survived by her father Vincent, a driver; her mother Gypsy, a gym trainer; elder sister Angel, a teacher in Ernakulam; and brother Joel, a student at St. Thomas College, Thrissur.
In the midst of profound personal loss, Naomi's family chose to donate her organs, turning their tragedy into hope for several patients awaiting life-saving transplants.
