Washington, 27 June (H.S.): US President Donald Trump has thanked India after a road adjoining the United States Consulate in Hyderabad was officially named Donald Trump Avenue, describing it as a unique honour and saying he was the first US President to receive such recognition in the country.
Trump shared his reaction on Friday through his social media platform, Truth Social, where he expressed appreciation for the gesture and posted a photograph from the unveiling ceremony.
The new Donald Trump Avenue in Hyderabad, India — the first US President to ever be honoured in this way. Thank you, Trump wrote.
The newly designated Donald Trump Avenue is located beside the US Consulate in Hyderabad and is surrounded by the offices of several leading American technology companies, including Microsoft, Google and Amazon, making it a prominent commercial and diplomatic corridor in the city.
The ceremonial plaque was unveiled earlier this week in the presence of Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor.
According to the Telangana government, the naming of the road is intended as a tribute to the strong and expanding partnership between India and the United States. Officials said the decision also reflects Hyderabad's growing importance as a global technology hub and its deepening economic and strategic links with the United States.
The move comes amid continued efforts by both countries to strengthen cooperation across trade, technology, defence, investment and people-to-people exchanges. Hyderabad, which hosts major American multinational companies and one of the largest US diplomatic missions in India, has emerged as a key centre for bilateral engagement.
