New Delhi, 25 June (H.S.):
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will embark on a three-day visit to the Indian Ocean island nation of Seychelles from Saturday to participate in the country’s Golden Jubilee Independence celebrations.
The Ministry of External Affairs said on Thursday that the Prime Minister will undertake a State Visit to Seychelles from June 27 to 29. He will attend the Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations on Sunday as the Guest of Honour. Prime Minister Modi had last visited Seychelles in 2015.
As part of the celebrations, a contingent of the Indian Armed Forces and two Indian Navy ships will participate in the commemorative events.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, during the visit, Prime Minister Modi will hold talks with Seychelles President Wavel Ramkalawan. The two leaders will review all aspects of bilateral cooperation and exchange views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
The Prime Minister will also address the National Assembly of Seychelles and interact with members of the Indian community residing in the country.
The ministry stated, “This visit will further strengthen the strong and enduring friendship between India and Seychelles and reinforce the shared commitment of both countries to enhancing bilateral relations across all sectors.”
India and Seychelles share a longstanding partnership rooted in historical ties, cultural links, and strong people-to-people connections. As an important maritime neighbour in the Indian Ocean region, Seychelles occupies a special place in India’s ‘Vision MAHASAGAR’ (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions) and its broader commitment to the Global South.
The visit is expected to provide fresh momentum to bilateral cooperation and further deepen strategic engagement between the two countries across a range of sectors.
