
New Delhi, 24 June (H.S.): The domestic equity market traded higher amid volatility during early trading on Wednesday. The benchmark indices opened on a mixed and largely flat note, but selling pressure immediately after the opening bell briefly dragged both the Sensex and Nifty into negative territory. However, renewed buying interest soon emerged, helping the indices recover and move into positive territory. By 10:00 a.m., the Sensex was up 0.32 per cent, while the Nifty had gained 0.17 per cent.
Among the major stocks in active trade by 10:00 a.m., shares of Cipla, Dr. Reddy's Laboratories, Power Grid Corporation of India, Axis Bank and Sun Pharmaceutical Industries were trading higher, posting gains ranging from 0.27 per cent to 1.23 per cent.
On the other hand, shares of Infosys, Tata Consultancy Services, Adani Enterprises, Wipro and JSW Steel were trading lower, with losses ranging between 3.13 per cent and 3.39 per cent.
A total of 3,002 stocks were actively traded in the market during the session. Of these, 831 stocks were trading in the green, while 2,171 stocks were in negative territory. Among the 30 constituents of the Sensex, 14 stocks were trading with gains, whereas 16 stocks remained under selling pressure. Similarly, among the 50 constituents of the Nifty, 23 stocks were trading higher and 27 stocks were trading lower.
The BSE Sensex opened marginally higher by 29.08 points at 76,229.76. Soon after the opening, selling pressure pushed the index down to an intraday low of 76,121.59. Buyers subsequently stepped in, enabling the benchmark to recover and move back into positive territory. Amid continued buying and selling activity, the Sensex was trading 243.26 points higher at 76,443.94 at 10:00 a.m.
In contrast, the NSE Nifty opened 28.30 points lower at 23,795.80. Early selling pressure dragged the index down to 23,789.25 shortly after trading began. However, buying interest soon emerged, helping the index regain lost ground. By 10:00 a.m., the Nifty had advanced 40.80 points to 23,864.90.
In the previous trading session on Tuesday, the Sensex had closed 893.39 points, or 1.16 per cent, lower at 76,200.68. Likewise, the Nifty ended the day down 278.80 points, or 1.16 per cent, at 23,824.10. The recovery in early trading on Wednesday reflected a return of buying interest despite lingering market volatility.
