Thiruananthapuram, 24 June (H.S.) : The Kerala government will begin disbursing the June installment of social welfare pensions from Wednesday, providing financial assistance to more than 5.17 million beneficiaries across the state. Each beneficiary will receive ₹2,000 as part of the monthly welfare pension scheme.

The state government has sanctioned ₹1,080 crore for the distribution of the June pension. Officials said the disbursement process has been set in motion and is expected to be completed by July 3.

In addition to the social welfare pensions, pensions under various Welfare Fund Boards will also be released from Wednesday. The State Finance Department has allocated an additional ₹128.59 crore for the payment of Welfare Fund Board pensions, ensuring that beneficiaries covered under these schemes receive their dues without delay.

The welfare pension programme is one of the state’s largest social security initiatives, extending financial support to vulnerable sections of society, including the elderly, widows, persons with disabilities, unmarried women, and agricultural labourers.

Among the pensions being distributed are the Agricultural Workers’ Pension, the Indira Gandhi National Old Age Pension, Disability Pension, Pension for Unmarried Women, and Widow Pension. These schemes provide a crucial source of income for lakhs of beneficiaries, many of whom depend on the assistance to meet their daily expenses and healthcare needs.

Government sources said efforts are being made to ensure that the pension amount reaches beneficiaries as quickly as possible. Local self-government institutions, cooperative banks and other agencies involved in the disbursement process have been directed to expedite payments and avoid delays.

The timely release of welfare pensions is expected to provide relief to beneficiaries across Kerala, particularly amid rising living costs. The government reiterated its commitment to strengthening the social security net and ensuring that pension payments are made regularly and efficiently.

With the latest allocation, lakhs of pensioners across the state are set to receive financial assistance over the coming days, offering support to some of Kerala’s most vulnerable communities.
