Alappuzha, 22 June (H.S.):Congress leader and AICC General Secretary K.C. Venugopal on Monday said that policy-related issues, including the State government’s liquor policy and decisions concerning mineral sand mining, would be discussed within the party framework, while stressing the need to address concerns raised by various sections of society.
Speaking to reporters, Venugopal said discussions on important policy matters would take place at the appropriate time and through the proper channels within the Congress party. He noted that certain concerns had been raised regarding the liquor policy and mineral sand-related decisions and said it was the responsibility of the government to clarify and resolve such apprehensions.
“Any policy decision that affects the State will naturally be discussed within the party. The government’s functioning has been progressing well, but concerns may arise from different quarters, which is only natural, especially since the government is still new,” he said.
Venugopal added that if anyone had complaints or reservations regarding the government’s policies, those issues would be taken up and examined at the party level. He also highlighted the achievements of the government during its initial period in office and praised the recent State Budget.
“The Budget contains several important announcements that people had been waiting for. Within a month, the government has introduced many positive measures. If there are concerns over certain decisions, the focus should be on addressing and resolving them,” he said.
On the issue of mineral sand mining, Venugopal reiterated that the Congress party has a well-defined position at both the national and State levels, and that the United Democratic Front (UDF) also has its own policy framework on the matter.
He said that while the government may be acting with good intentions, it must ensure that its decisions enjoy public acceptance. Referring to issues affecting coastal communities, he stressed that any reforms or policy changes related to coastal regions should be implemented only after extensive consultations with stakeholders and residents of the coastal belt.
Venugopal said constructive dialogue and consensus-building would remain essential in addressing policy concerns and ensuring public confidence in the government’s decisions.
