
Bhubaneswar, 22 June (H.S.): A high-level team from the Odisha Government arrived in Chennai on Monday to coordinate relief and assistance measures following the tragic gas leak incident in Tamil Nadu that claimed the lives of Odia workers and left several others injured.
The team is led by Rajesh Agrawala, Special Secretary, Labour & ESI Department, and includes senior officials tasked with monitoring the situation and ensuring support for the affected workers and their families.
According to official sources, the body of one deceased worker was shifted to Chennai on Sunday night, and the post-mortem examination is scheduled to be conducted on Monday. M.M. Paik, a member of the Odisha delegation, will remain in Chennai to coordinate with the Joint Commissioner of Labour and officials of the Government Medical College Hospital regarding the post-mortem process and other related formalities.
Meanwhile, Rajesh Agrawala and B.B. Acharya will proceed to Tiruvallur, where several injured workers are currently undergoing treatment. Some of the injured are reported to be in critical condition. The body of another deceased worker is also presently at Tiruvallur.
In a significant relief measure, around 130 affected workers have been accommodated safely in a nearby community hall and mandap, where food, shelter, and other essential facilities have been arranged. The Odisha Government team has established contact with senior Labour Department officials in both Chennai and Tiruvallur, and coordination with the local administration is underway to ensure effective management of relief and rehabilitation efforts.
The Odisha Government is closely monitoring developments and remains committed to extending all possible assistance to the affected workers and bereaved families. Further updates will be shared as more information becomes available.
