Guwahati, 23 June (HS): A young woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances at her rented accommodation in the Chachal area of Guwahati, prompting police to launch an investigation into the incident.

The deceased has been identified as Parul Moni Pegu, a native of Dhakuakhana in Assam's Lakhimpur district. She had been staying as a tenant at a residence on Tribeni Path for the last three months and was employed with a Reliance insurance company.

According to local sources, concern grew after the room remained locked throughout Monday and repeated attempts by family members to contact her went unanswered. Later in the evening, relatives and colleagues arrived at the residence and allegedly discovered her hanging inside the room.

Following the incident, personnel from Dispur Police Station reached the spot and recovered the body. Necessary legal procedures were carried out and the body was sent for further examination. Officials said the exact cause of death is yet to be determined.

Meanwhile, some colleagues claimed that Pegu had reportedly been in a long-term relationship with a married man and had recently learned about his marital status, which allegedly left her emotionally distressed. However, these claims have not been officially verified by investigators.

The case has taken another turn after a leader of Takam Mising Porin Kebang (TMPK) expressed suspicion over the circumstances surrounding the death and alleged the possibility of foul play. The organisation has called for a fair, transparent and comprehensive investigation.

Police have not confirmed any criminal angle so far and stated that all aspects of the case are being examined as the investigation continues.-----------
