Guwahati, 22 June (HS): The flood situation continues to remain critical in Assam’s Jonai area as the swollen Chille River has unleashed widespread devastation following incessant rainfall in neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh. Rising floodwaters have submerged roads, houses and vast stretches of agricultural land, affecting normal life across several villages.

According to reports, large parts of Rabhakathani, Shantipur and Malbhog villages are currently under floodwaters. The overflowing river has disrupted communication and daily activities, while several schools in the affected areas have been forced to suspend operations due to inundation.

Meanwhile, the flood situation in Sonari remained unchanged for the fifth consecutive day. Sonari town and several adjoining localities continue to remain submerged, leaving residents stranded and struggling to cope with the prolonged waterlogging.

Flood-affected residents have alleged that local representatives and the administration have failed to adequately assess their condition. In Ward No. 6, several families are reportedly living together in single rooms amid unhygienic conditions as floodwaters continue to surround their homes.

The affected people have urged the authorities to immediately provide essential relief, including safe drinking water and food supplies, warning that the situation could worsen if assistance does not reach them at the earliest.-------------
