Guwahati, 21 June (HS): Assam Forest Minister Jayanta Mallabarua has ordered immediate disciplinary action against officials of the Hajo Forest Range following reports of alleged illegal collection of money and administrative irregularities.

Acting on the findings of a report submitted to the department, the minister directed the transfer of Hajo Range Forest Officer Pranjal Barman as a punitive measure. In addition, forest staff member Imtiaz Ahmed has been placed under suspension pending further inquiry.

The Forest Department initiated the action after receiving allegations related to unauthorized monetary collection and procedural lapses within the range. The minister emphasized that any form of corruption, misconduct, or irregularity within the department would not be tolerated.

Officials stated that further investigation into the matter is underway and additional action may be taken based on the outcome of the inquiry. The government has reiterated its commitment to ensuring transparency, accountability and integrity in the functioning of the Forest Department.-----------
