Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday expressed confidence that India and Ukraine have significant potential to deepen bilateral cooperation after holding talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Evian, France.
Describing the meeting as productive, Zelensky said the two leaders reviewed the progress made in bilateral ties and explored ways to expand cooperation across multiple sectors. He noted that both countries are already implementing several joint initiatives and agreed to give greater momentum to existing projects.
Our countries have great potential for cooperation, and we are already implementing joint projects. Today, we discussed how to give them even more substance and expand cooperation across various sectors, Zelensky said after the meeting.
The Ukrainian President said Prime Minister Modi had shown a strong interest in strengthening mutually beneficial relations with Ukraine, adding that closer cooperation would benefit the people of both nations.
Zelensky also revealed that the two leaders identified several promising industrial and economic projects that could be developed jointly. He said officials from both countries would continue discussions to work out the details and advance those initiatives.
The meeting came at a time when India and Ukraine are seeking to broaden engagement despite the ongoing conflict in Eastern Europe. In recent years, both countries have maintained dialogue on trade, economic cooperation and humanitarian issues.
Prime Minister Modi also reiterated India's long-standing position that peace remains the only sustainable solution to the conflict. Following the meeting, he said India has consistently stood on the side of peace and humanity while emphasizing the importance of dialogue and diplomacy.
The Modi-Zelensky meeting was among a series of high-level bilateral engagements held by the Indian Prime Minister on Wednesday during the G7 Summit, reflecting India's continued diplomatic outreach with global partners.
