Nikkei 225 Index Hits All-Time High Above 71,000 Points

TOKYO, June 18 (HS/RIA Novosti) - The Nikkei Index on the Tokyo Stock Exchange, which tracks the stock prices of 225 leading Japanese companies, surpassed the 71,000-point mark for the first time in its history on Thursday, according to trading data.

The previous record stood for only two days. Twenty minutes after the start of trading, it rose 1,492.82 points to 71,395.07, an increase of more than 2%.

Analysts explain the stock market surge by the news of the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran.

On Thursday night, US President Donald Trump announced that he had signed a memorandum of understanding between the US and Iran. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghaei also confirmed the signing of the memorandum on ending the conflict.
