Barpeta (Assam), 16 June (HS): Barpeta Police have arrested three persons today in connection with the murder of a youth at Gayanhati in Barpeta town on Sunday night. The accused have been identified as Samiran Gayan, Ganen Das and Jitul Bhuyan.

Acting on the investigation led by Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Samiran Baishya, the police apprehended the three accused within 24 hours of the incident.

According to police, the victim, Bipul Gayan, was found murdered near his residence on Sunday night. Following the incident, a detailed investigation was launched, leading to the swift arrest of the suspects.

Addressing a press conference today, Additional SP Samiran Baishya stated that the murder was allegedly triggered by a dispute arising out of alcohol consumption. The accused reportedly confessed that after drinking liquor at Samiran Gayan’s residence, they assaulted Bipul Gayan with wooden sticks in front of the house, resulting in his death.

Police further informed that the victim and all three accused were residents of the same Gayanhati locality and lived in close proximity to each other. Further investigation into the case is underway.----------
