Commission takes strict note, summons him

personally on June 24

Chandigarh, 15 June (H.S.): Union Minister of State and

senior BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu once again failed to appear personally

before the Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission in connection with a case

related to alleged misbehaviour with a police employee and the use of casteist

remarks during the Municipal Corporation elections.

The Commission had directed Bittu to appear before it on

June 15, but instead of appearing personally, his lawyer attended the

proceedings. The lawyer submitted that Bittu was currently busy with official

government engagements.

Taking a strict view of the matter, Punjab SC Commission

Chairman Jasbir Singh Garhi said that the previous date had also been given as

per Bittu’s convenience and complete details regarding the case had already

been provided to him. The Commission has now summoned Ravneet Singh Bittu again

and directed him to appear personally on June 24.

Sangrur SP Rajesh Singh Chhibber also appeared before

the Commission to provide information related to the case. Earlier too, Bittu

had been summoned by the Commission, but his lawyer had appeared on his behalf

and sought more time for his personal appearance.

The matter came to light after a related video went

viral on social media. Taking suo motu notice, the Punjab SC Commission had

summoned Bittu and sought a report from Sangrur Police. Bittu had later

publicly apologised for his words, while Sangrur Police has already submitted

its report before the Commission.

Bittu was first asked to appear on June 4, 2026, but he did not appear

citing personal reasons and official engagements in Delhi. He was then summoned

again for June 15, but failed to appear personally. The Commission has now

asked him to appear on June 24 for the next hearing.
