Guwahati, 15 June (HS): Commuters across Assam may soon have to pay significantly higher bus fares, as the All Assam Motor Transport Association has reportedly decided to increase bus fares by 70%.

According to the proposed revision, the minimum bus fare is expected to be fixed at ₹20, meaning passengers will have to pay at least this amount from the moment they board a bus.

The decision has triggered concern among daily commuters, particularly those who depend on public transport for work, education and other essential travel. Many passengers fear the steep hike will place an additional financial burden on households already grappling with rising living costs.

Reacting to the proposed fare increase, several residents of Lower Assam expressed apprehension, stating that a sudden 70% rise in bus fares would create serious difficulties for ordinary people and adversely affect their daily expenses.-----------
