Mumbai Coastal Road to ease congestion on Western Express Highway: Fadnavis

Mumbai, 14 June (H.S.): Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday said the Mumbai Coastal Road project would help reduce congestion on the Western Express Highway and provide a parallel signal-free transport corridor for the city.

Speaking to reporters after reviewing the progress of the project, Fadnavis said nearly 60 per cent of Mumbai's traffic currently uses the Western Express Highway, making it necessary to develop an alternative route.

He said Mumbai's geographical layout requires additional transport infrastructure to improve connectivity and ease traffic movement across the city.

The Chief Minister noted that the expansion of the metro network has already helped reduce pressure on roads and is expected to further improve urban mobility in the coming years.

Fadnavis said the Bandra-Versova stretch of the Mumbai Coastal Road project is targeted for completion by March 2028 and will play a key role in strengthening the city's transport network.
