New Delhi, 12 June (H.S.): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has welcomed the decision of the Haryana government to include the life, contributions, and teachings of Sikh Gurus in the Class 8 history curriculum.
The party stated that the move reflects the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s commitment to preserving Sikh heritage. BJP National General Secretary Tarun Chugh, while speaking to reporters on Friday, said that while the Congress had allegedly neglected the history of the Sikh Gurus, the BJP has worked to bring Sikh history into the national consciousness through initiatives such as Veer Bal Diwas, the 350th martyrdom commemoration of Guru Tegh Bahadur Sahib Ji, and other related observances.
Chugh further criticized the Congress party, referring to the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, stating that the country can never forget the incident. He alleged that Sikhs were targeted using voter lists, gurdwaras were set on fire, and multiple cities were turned into “graveyards.” He also cited other incidents such as the Bhopal gas tragedy and the killings in Dantewada, accusing the Congress of double standards and calling its political legacy one of repeated “Himalayan blunders.”
He further said that the people of India have repeatedly rejected what he described as politics of lies, confusion, and “crocodile tears,” adding that such narratives would no longer succeed.
Taking a dig at the All India Trinamool Congress, Chugh alleged that the party had turned West Bengal into a center of loot, appeasement politics, and “cut money” practices. He further remarked that its leaders, after being removed from power by the people, are now “falling under the burden of their misdeeds.”
