Hooghly, 12 June (H.S.): Swapan Nandi, former Chairman of Arambagh Municipality and General Secretary of the West Bengal Trinamool Congress, has been arrested in connection with the much-discussed Green City project case. The arrest has triggered significant political reactions in Arambagh.

According to police sources, the investigation was initiated on the basis of a complaint lodged by Arambagh Municipality Chairman Samir Bhandari. A contractor and an electrical supervisor had already been arrested in the case a few days ago. Following those arrests, demands for action against the principal accused persons had intensified.

The police said on Wednesday that raids had been conducted at various locations over the past few days in search of Swapan Nandi. He was eventually arrested from Kerala and is being brought to Hooghly for questioning as part of the ongoing investigation.

The case pertains to alleged financial irregularities, misuse of government funds, and administrative lapses in the Green City project. Investigators believe that more crucial information may emerge as the probe progresses.
