New Delhi, 12 June (H.S.): Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Friday reviewed the security arrangements for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra and issued comprehensive directions to ensure the safety of pilgrims and the smooth conduct of the annual pilgrimage.

He stated that the Modi government remains fully committed to ensuring the highest level of security and a comfortable travel experience for devotees undertaking the Amarnath Yatra.

During a high-level review meeting, Shah directed that a multi-layered and impregnable security grid be established along the pilgrimage route through coordinated efforts of the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), Jammu and Kashmir Police, and other security agencies. He also stressed the extensive use of modern technologies such as drones, CCTV surveillance systems, and advanced monitoring infrastructure to further strengthen security arrangements.

The Home Minister instructed senior officers from various central forces and the Jammu and Kashmir Police to continuously monitor arrangements at base camps and along the route. He further emphasized the need to ensure proper arrangements for registration, accommodation, healthcare services, communication systems, and disaster management for pilgrims.

Special focus was also placed on the registration of local service providers and animals used in the pilgrimage. It was directed that QR code-enabled identity cards be issued to all relevant individuals, and special medical camps be set up for health checks of animals engaged in the Yatra.

Shah also instructed officials to allow movement of pilgrim convoys strictly based on weather conditions and forecasts. He added that robust security arrangements should also be ensured at other major tourist destinations in Jammu and Kashmir so that pilgrims and tourists can travel safely in a secure environment.

The meeting was attended by National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the Army Chief, Director General of the CRPF, and senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, security agencies, and civil administration.

It is noteworthy that the annual Amarnath Yatra attracts millions of pilgrims from across the country every year, necessitating extensive security arrangements.
