New Delhi, 12 June (H.S.):

The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), India’s aviation accident investigation agency, on Friday issued an interim statement on the progress of its investigation into the crash involving Air India Flight AI-171.

According to a statement released by the Ministry of Civil Aviation, the AAIB said that the final investigation report into the accident will be published after the completion of all investigative activities, as well as the necessary international review and consultation processes.

It may be recalled that exactly one year ago, on June 12, 2025, Air India Flight AI-171, operating from Ahmedabad to London, crashed shortly after take-off from Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport. The accident claimed the lives of 260 people, including those on board the aircraft and 19 individuals on the ground.

Marking the first anniversary of the tragedy, the AAIB stated that significant progress has been made in the analysis of aircraft systems, flight recorder data, engine components, maintenance records, operational documentation, and other evidence related to the crash of the Air India Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.

In its statement, the Bureau expressed its deepest condolences to the families and loved ones of all those who lost their lives in the accident. It acknowledged the immense pain and suffering endured by those affected by the tragedy.

The AAIB further stated that the investigation is being conducted in accordance with the Aircraft (Investigation of Accidents and Incidents) Rules, 2017, as amended, and the standards and recommended practices contained in Annex 13 of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

The Bureau also noted that a preliminary factual report containing initial findings and information related to the accident had been released on July 12, 2025.

The final report, it said, will be issued only after all investigative procedures, technical assessments, international consultations, and review processes have been fully completed.
