New Delhi, 11 June (H.S.):The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has successfully secured the extradition of wanted fugitive Vanket Garg from Georgia. Garg was wanted by the Haryana Police in multiple criminal cases, including murder, attempted murder, extortion, organised crime, and the illegal use of firearms. After being arrested in Georgia and following the completion of legal proceedings, he was brought back to India on Thursday.

According to the CBI, a Haryana Police escort team travelled to Georgia as part of close coordination between Indian and foreign authorities. The team returned to Delhi with Vanket Garg on June 11, where he was formally taken into custody by the CBI.

The agency stated that the extradition operation was carried out with the assistance of the Ministry of External Affairs, the Ministry of Home Affairs, and the Haryana Police. The coordinated effort ensured the successful return of the accused to face legal proceedings in India.

The CBI further revealed that the National Central Bureau (NCB), New Delhi, had secured the issuance of an Interpol Red Corner Notice against Vanket Garg through Interpol channels. Acting on the notice, Georgian authorities located and arrested him. Subsequently, Georgia approved India's extradition request after completing the required legal formalities.

The agency said that further investigation into the cases involving Garg is ongoing.

The extradition marks another significant step in India's efforts to bring fugitives involved in serious criminal offences back to the country and strengthen international cooperation in law enforcement.
