Kolkata, 01 June (H.S.) : Alipurduar district achieved a significant milestone in West Bengal politics as three of its legislators were inducted into the state cabinet during the first expansion of the BJP-led government on Monday.
At the swearing-in ceremony held at Lok Bhavan in Kolkata, MLAs Deepak Barman from Falakata, Manoj Oraon from Kumargram, and Bishal Lama from Kalchini took oath as ministers, marking a rare occasion for the district.
The inclusion of three legislators from a single district in the Council of Ministers has sparked widespread celebrations across Alipurduar. BJP workers and supporters described the development as a major recognition of the district’s growing political importance.
According to party sources, excitement began building on Sunday night after confirmation of the ministers’ induction became public. Large numbers of party workers gathered outside BJP offices across the district, where celebrations continued late into the night. Firecrackers were burst, colours were thrown in celebration, and sweets were distributed among supporters and local residents.
Festive scenes were witnessed on Monday in Alipurduar, Falakata, Kumargram and Kalchini, with party workers hailing the appointments as a historic moment for the region.
Local BJP leaders said the district, which they claim had long remained neglected in terms of political representation, has now secured a strong voice in the state government. They expressed hope that the enhanced representation would accelerate development in the Dooars region, particularly in tribal-dominated areas and tea garden communities.
The enthusiasm further intensified after residents and supporters watched the live telecast of the swearing-in ceremony from Lok Bhavan, turning the occasion into a district-wide celebration.
Political observers believe the induction of three ministers from Alipurduar reflects the government's focus on strengthening its presence in North Bengal and addressing the developmental aspirations of the region.
