Inter Milan Clinch 21st Serie A Title with 2-0 Victory over Parma

Milan, 04 May (H.S.): Inter Milan wrapped up the 2025–26 Serie A title in emphatic fashion, defeating Parma 2-0 at San Siro to claim their 21st league championship and open an unassailable lead in the standings with three matches still to play.

With the win, Inter extended their tally to 82 points and moved 12 points clear of defending champions Napoli, who could only manage a 0-0 draw against Como in their previous fixture.

Dominant display seals the Scudetto

Inter’s dominance in the game was evident from the outset. Marcus Thuram opened the scoring in first‑half stoppage time, finishing a sharp move triggered by a pass from Piotr Zieliński and slotting the ball past Parma goalkeeper Zion Suzuki at an angle that left the custodian with no realistic reach.

In the second half, Inter maintained control of the tempo, creating several clear chances and repeatedly testing the visitors’ defence. Federico Dimarco’s cross was inches away from being converted by Denzel Dumfries, while other openings were similarly wasted as Parma’s rearguard held firm.

Inter finally sealed the victory in the 80th minute, when 37‑year‑old Henrikh Mkhitaryan converted an assist from Lautaro Martínez, who had just returned from injury. The goal extinguished any lingering hope of a late Parma resurgence and sent the San Siro crowd into jubilant celebrations.

Redemption after a difficult previous season

The triumph carried special significance for Inter, who had missed out on the title the previous season and endured a chastening 5-0 defeat to Paris Saint‑Germain in the UEFA Champions League final.

Martínez, speaking after the match, reflected on the emotional weight of the occasion: “This is a huge achievement for us. Coming back after the disappointment of last season was not easy, but the team worked extremely hard and stayed focused throughout the campaign.”

Missed chances and a controversial call

Earlier in the match, Parma’s luck was summed up by a post‑hit from Nicolò Barella in the 25th minute, when his powerful shot crashed against the crossbar, and Suzuki’s alert reflexes kept the score level.

Parma did manage to find the net late in the contest, but the goal was ruled out for offside, while Inter’s Davide Frattesi came close to adding a third, only to be thwarted by a superb save from Suzuki.

Inter’s 21st Scudetto underlines the strength of their squad and the cohesive team culture they have built over the course of the season, positioning them once again at the pinnacle of Italian football.
