
Kangpokpi (Manipur), 31 May (HS): A firing incident involving unidentified armed miscreants was reported near Kharam Vaiphei Village in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on Saturday, resulting in the destruction of five kutcha houses by fire.
According to official information on Sunday, the armed attackers opened fire in the vicinity of the village at around 1:45 pm on May 30. During the disturbance, five temporary houses in Kharam Vaiphei village were set ablaze.
District Police personnel, supported by security forces stationed near the area, swiftly moved to the spot and launched an operation to contain the situation. The firing and subsequent arson were brought under control, preventing further damage and escalation.
Authorities confirmed that no injuries or loss of life were reported in the incident.
Meanwhile, officials have dismissed social media posts and statements allegedly circulated by media outlets linked to militant groups that praised the District Superintendent of Police and levelled allegations against the police and security forces. The administration stated that such claims are entirely baseless and do not reflect the actual circumstances surrounding the incident.
The authorities have also warned that legal action will be taken against individuals or groups found spreading misinformation or disinformation through social media and other platforms during the sensitive period.------------
