New Delhi, 30 May (H.S.):
Myanmar President U Min Aung Hlaing will arrive today in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, on a visit to India from May 30 to June 3. He will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Modi in New Delhi on June 1. Both leaders will discuss strengthening the historical and cultural ties between India and Myanmar. This is U Min Aung Hlaing's first foreign visit after becoming president in April following a controversial election victory.
The Myanmar President is arriving today in Bodh Gaya. He will reach Gaya Airport in Bihar in the morning, from where he will be taken to the hotel under tight security. He will visit the Mahabodhi Temple at around 11 a.m., where he will offer prayers and tour the site with his delegation. In addition to the Mahabodhi Temple, he will also visit the Burmese Vihara, Mahabodhi Dhamma Ekta Monastery, and Sujata Temple Matangwapi.
Myanmar's President was scheduled to participate in the International Big Cat Alliance (IBCA) Summit on June 1, but the Fourth India-Africa Forum Summit was postponed due to Ebola virus outbreaks in some countries on the African continent. The IBCA Summit was also to be held alongside it, so it too was postponed. Despite this, Myanmar's President is coming to India on an official visit.
During this visit, he will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Modi in New Delhi on June 1. Both leaders will discuss further strengthening the historical and cultural ties between India and Myanmar. On June 2, he will arrive in Mumbai, where he will participate in events related to the industry and business world, along with visiting various industrial sites.
U Min Aung Hlaing is Myanmar's 11th President and a former military commander. He became Myanmar's official president in April 2026. Prior to this, he seized power in February 2021 through a military coup, removing Myanmar's elected leader Aung San Suu Kyi's government.
