Washington, 29 May (H.S.): The United States and Iran have made significant progress toward a ceasefire extension agreement, but final approval from US President Donald Trump is still pending, according to US Vice President JD Vance.
Speaking to reporters on Thursday, Vance said negotiations between Washington and Tehran were moving forward, with only a few remaining language-related issues being worked out. He noted that while an understanding has largely been reached, the deal is not yet finalized.
“We’ve made a lot of progress and are going back and forth on some wording,” Vance said, indicating that discussions are continuing at the diplomatic level.
He added that the US administration remains hopeful that the remaining differences can be resolved soon, after which President Trump would be in a position to formally endorse the agreement. However, he emphasized that the deal is still not confirmed.
The development comes amid ongoing efforts to stabilize tensions between the US and Iran, following months of fluctuating hostilities and intermittent diplomatic engagement. Officials on both sides have reportedly worked on outlining terms for a broader ceasefire extension aimed at reducing regional escalation risks.
While earlier reports suggested that an agreement had already been reached, Vance clarified that discussions are still ongoing and subject to final political approval at the highest level.
The proposal is expected to undergo further review before any official announcement is made by the White House.
