
New Delhi, May 29 (H.S.): The Ministry of External Affairs has stated that the 35th meeting of the Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination (WMCC) on India-China border affairs was held on May 27 in Beijing. An official at the level of Joint Secretary from the Indian side participated in the discussions.
The meeting covered issues related to border management, delineation, border cooperation, and institutional framework development. Both sides also emphasised the need for an early expert-level dialogue on matters concerning rivers flowing between the two countries.
Speaking at a weekly press briefing on Friday, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the discussions between the two sides were meaningful and represented a step forward. He added that India expects progress on the understandings reached in the talks between the Special Representatives of both countries on boundary issues.
He further informed that the next meeting of the Special Representatives will be held in China, and preparations are currently underway.
On statements made by China and Pakistan regarding Jammu and Kashmir, the spokesperson said that India has already made its position clear on the matter.
