
New Delhi, May 29 (H.S.): India has stated that cases involving Bangladeshi infiltrators will be dealt with strictly in accordance with the law. The government said that details of 2,680 individuals have been sent to Bangladeshi authorities for verification of citizenship, following which deportation proceedings will be initiated once confirmation is received.
The Ministry of External Affairs noted that several of these cases have been pending for over five years and expressed the expectation that Bangladesh will expedite action in this regard.
Speaking at the weekly press briefing on Friday, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that there exists an established mechanism between the two countries regarding the illegal presence of citizens, under which such individuals can be repatriated.
The Ministry further stated that India has dispatched a consignment of medicines to Uganda, an African nation affected by the Ebola disease. It added that India remains ready to extend all necessary assistance to African countries in dealing with such public health emergencies.
In response to another question, the spokesperson informed that the President of Myanmar is scheduled to visit India from May 30 to June 2. During the visit, the Myanmar leader will travel to Bodh Gaya and Mumbai. Leaders of both countries are expected to hold discussions on border security and connectivity-related issues.
