Thiruvananthapuram, 28 May (H.S.): Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan on Thursday extended heartfelt Bakrid greetings to people across the state, describing the festival as a powerful reminder of sacrifice, devotion, and selflessness.

In a message shared on social media ahead of the celebrations, the Chief Minister said that Bakrid, also known as Eid-ul-Adha, carries a timeless message of commitment, compassion, and spiritual surrender, values that should be reflected in everyday life.

He noted that the essence of the festival goes beyond religious observance and should inspire people to embrace humanity, kindness, and social harmony. Satheesan said the spiritual light spread by such celebrations must guide society towards greater unity and mutual respect.

“The great message of Bakrid is one of sacrifice and self-surrender. The values conveyed by the festival should radiate through our daily lives,” the Chief Minister said in his message.

He further stated that festivals should become a source of strength for people facing hardships and challenges in life. According to him, celebrations rooted in faith and compassion can help individuals remain resilient during difficult times and encourage society to move forward together with hope and humanity.

The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of preserving the humanitarian spirit associated with festivals and ensuring that celebrations contribute positively to social unity and communal harmony.

Extending his wishes to the Muslim community and people of all faiths celebrating the occasion, Satheesan said he hoped the festival would bring peace, happiness, and prosperity to every household.

Bakrid, one of the most significant festivals in Islam, commemorates the spirit of sacrifice and devotion associated with Prophet Ibrahim and is observed with prayers, charitable acts, and community gatherings across the world.
