Imphal, 23 May (HS): Security forces recovered a huge cache of arms, explosives and ammunition during a search operation conducted at Tekcham Maning Ching area under Khongjom Police Station in Manipur’s Thoubal district over last 24 hours.

The recovered items included one SMG Carbine with magazine, four bolt action rifles, two 9 mm pistols along with magazines, one single barrel breech loading (SBBL) gun, one double barrel breech loading (DBBL) gun, four 2-inch Para Bombs, one 36 HE hand grenade, ten 12 bore cartridges and three live 9 mm rounds.

On another operation carried out on the same day, security personnel apprehended an active cadre of the banned outfit KYKL from Khongjom Papal Lamkhai area under Khongjom Police Station in Thoubal district. The arrested militant was identified as Nepram Bikash Singh alias Manglemba alias Ingocha (30), a resident of Langathel Chingkhong Leikai presently staying at Waikhong Uyung Khunou.

Police said a mobile phone was seized from his possession during the arrest.

Meanwhile, in a separate anti-drug operation, Manipur Police intercepted a Maruti Ignis vehicle bearing registration number MZ01AD-5474 at a temporary motor vehicle check post set up near Suangdoh village under Singnat Police Station in Churachandpur district.

During the checking, police arrested the occupant of the vehicle, identified as Siamkhansuan Samte (44), a resident of Gouchinkhup Veng in New Lamka, Churachandpur district.

A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 33 soap cases containing suspected Brown Sugar and 40,000 WY tablets weighing around 3.8 kilograms. The vehicle used for transportation and a mobile phone were also seized by the police.

Further investigation into all the incidents is underway.------------
