Mumbai, May 22 (H.S.): The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has announced a record dividend transfer of ₹2.87 lakh crore to the Central Government for the financial year 2025-26. The massive payout is expected to provide significant fiscal support to the government amid ongoing global economic challenges.

The RBI’s Central Board has approved the transfer of a record surplus dividend of ₹2.87 lakh crore (₹2,87,000 crore) to the Government of India for FY 2025-26. This marks the highest-ever dividend transfer by the central bank to the Centre, surpassing the ₹2.69 lakh crore transferred during FY 2024-25.

The decision to approve the dividend payout was taken during the 623rd meeting of the RBI’s Central Board of Directors, chaired by Governor Sanjay Malhotra.

The Reserve Bank stated that its net income for FY 2025-26 stood at ₹3,95,972.10 crore before accounting for risk provisioning and transfers to statutory reserves, compared to ₹3,13,455.77 crore in the previous financial year.

According to the RBI, the dividend transferred during FY 2024-25 amounted to ₹2.69 lakh crore, which was 27.4 per cent higher than the previous year. Earlier, the central bank had transferred ₹2.1 lakh crore to the government for FY 2023-24 and ₹87,416 crore for FY 2022-23.

The latest dividend payout highlights the strong financial position of the Reserve Bank and is expected to provide a major boost to the government’s fiscal management and expenditure plans.
