Kathmandu, 02 May (H.S.):
Sergio Gor, the United States Special Envoy for South and Central Asia and the U.S. Ambassador to India, has met Ravi Lamichhane, the chairman of Nepal’s ruling National Freedom Party (Rastriya Swatantra Party, RSP), during his visit to Kathmandu.
According to the U.S. Embassy in Kathmandu, Gor arrived at Lamichhane’s residence in Boudhanilkanth at around 8:30 a.m. on Saturday morning and held talks with him for approximately half an hour. The envoy left the venue by 9 a.m.
Gor also flew to the Everest Base Camp on the same day to test a flight trial of an American cargo drone named “Ultra X Gen 2.” He was accompanied to the base camp by Scott Charge, the Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Nepal.
However, the Nepali government has not issued any official information regarding permission for the drone flight or the exact details of the programme.
It may be recalled that Gor arrived in Kathmandu on Friday evening from New Delhi, leading a six‑member delegation. On Friday afternoon, he held meetings with Nepal’s Foreign Minister and Finance Minister. Later, he also visited the Kathmandu Durbar Square area. His schedule indicates that he is set to return to New Delhi later on Saturday evening.
