Kathmandu, 02 May (H.S.): India’s Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri is set to visit Nepal, in a move that will mark the first senior‑level diplomatic visit from New Delhi after the formation of the new government led by Prime Minister Balendra Shah in Kathmandu. The two‑day trip has been scheduled at the invitation of Nepal’s Foreign Secretary Amrit Bahadur Rai, with Misri due to arrive in Kathmandu on May 11 and stay through May 12.

The visit will be the first high‑level engagement between India and the Balen‑led administration in Nepal. According to the Nepal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Misri will be formally invited to undertake the visit by a letter from Foreign Secretary Rai.

During his stay in Kathmandu, Misri is expected to meet Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal, Finance Minister Swarnim Wagle, and Energy Minister Biraj Bhatta Shrestha. He is also scheduled to hold talks with the President‑chairman of the ruling National Freedom Party (Rastriya Swatantra Party, RSP), Ravi Lamichhane.

Misri will be accompanied to Nepal by Additional Secretary Manu Mahawar, the head of the North desk at the Indian Ministry of External Affairs. The visit is being seen as part of India’s efforts to reset and deepen cooperation with the new government, at a time when Nepal has also hosted high‑level visits from other powers in recent weeks.

Earlier, during a meeting with a group of Nepali journalists touring Delhi, Foreign Secretary Misri himself indicated that he would soon visit Nepal. He reiterated India’s intention to continue cooperation with the new administration in Kathmandu across all fields.
