Siliguri, 16 May (H.S.): Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan arrived at Bagdogra Airport on Saturday for a visit to Sikkim, where he is scheduled to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for several development projects, officials said.

According to the scheduled programme, the vice president was to travel to Sikkim by helicopter. However, the plan was changed due to adverse weather conditions.

He later left for Sikkim by road from Bagdogra, officials said.

Union minister Nisith Pramanik received the vice president at the airport. Senior district administration officials and the Siliguri police commissioner were also present.

Administrative sources said the vice president would inaugurate and launch several key development initiatives during his visit to the Himalayan state.

Security arrangements have been tightened in view of the high-profile visit, officials added.
