Guwahati, 16 May 16 (HS): Amid escalating tensions and instability in West Asia, the Assam Pradesh unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday asserted that India’s economy continues to remain resilient due to the stable and prudent economic policies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The party maintained that the Centre is making sustained efforts to shield common citizens from the adverse effects of the ongoing global fuel crisis.
In an official statement issued from the BJP’s state headquarters at Basistha, party media panelist Dilip Kumar Sarma said the continuing conflict in West Asia has severely impacted the global economy, particularly through an unprecedented rise in crude oil prices. He noted that crude oil prices, which hovered between 57 and 62 US dollars per barrel in December 2025, have now surged beyond 110 US dollars per barrel, placing immense economic pressure on fuel-importing nations worldwide.
Sarma stated that India imports nearly 88.3% of its crude oil requirements, with a major share sourced from West Asia, making the country vulnerable to global disruptions. Despite this, he claimed that the Modi-led government has managed to limit the increase in fuel prices and protect citizens from severe economic distress.
Drawing comparisons with other countries, the BJP leader said several nations have sharply increased petrol and diesel prices in response to the crisis, while India has witnessed comparatively minimal hikes over the past few months. According to the statement, petrol prices in India have increased by around 3.2% and diesel prices by nearly 3.4% during the recent crisis period, which the party described as among the lowest increases globally.
The statement further praised Prime Minister Modi’s leadership and diplomatic initiatives, asserting that his recent international engagements and agreements related to petroleum reserves and LPG supply have strengthened India’s energy security and boosted public confidence during the challenging global situation.
Expressing confidence in the country’s economic resilience, the Assam BJP said India would successfully overcome the present crisis under the Prime Minister’s leadership, strategic vision, and economic policies. The party also appealed to citizens across Assam and the country to extend cooperation and support to the government during the ongoing global uncertainty.-----------
