

DC expresses gratitude towards NDRF, SDRF, Punjab Police, Civil officials and local residents for their tireless efforts to save child
Hoshiarpur, 16 May (H.S.): A four-year-old boy, who had fallen into a borewell at local Chak Samana village on Hoshiarpur-Dasuya road was rescued safely after nearly nine hours long operation jointly accomplished by the NDRF, SDRF, Punjab Police, Administrative Officials and local residents.
Gurkaran Singh, son of Harinder and Asha, a labourer, was brought out of the borewell around 12:40 am and rushed to a hospital for a medical check-up.
Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain and SSP Sandeep Kumar Malik led the operation from the front and highly appreciated the teams for their unflinching commitment to make the operation a great success.
After accomplishment of the operation, Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain stated that the child after rescue carried to a hospital for further check-up along with a medical team in ambulance. She said that around 04:00 pm the incident happened and the administrative officials rushed to the spot immediate after receiving the information. The boy slipped to an open borewell adjoining their house, which was being dug up yesterday, she added.
After digging a parallel pit up to a depth of 25 to 30 feet, the rescuers got access to the borewell shaft through a narrow tunnel resulting in safe evacuation. The boy was stuck at a depth nearly 30 feet and the requisite machinery were brought to the site to intensify the rescue operations. She said that the district administration had also lowered a camera and oxygen pipe in the shaft and the child's movements were seen in the footage, which further apprised the team of every movement in the borewell.
The Deputy Commissioner said that NDRF team comprising more than 40 officials ensured great help in the operation with their expertise during this tough time.
Meanwhile, Punjab Jails Minister Dr. Ravjot Singh and Hoshiarpur Member Parliament Dr. Raj Kumar Chabbewal, who remained present at the site during the entire operations, commended the tireless efforts being put by all teams to save Gurkaran.
Dr Ravjot pointed out that the District Administration made elaborate arrangements to bring the child out of borewell with the help of the NDRF, other teams and local villagers. The Member Parliament Dr. Chabbewal said that it was very sensitive rescuer operation but the teams’ continuous efforts made it successful after around seven hours struggle.
SSP Sandeep Kamar Malik also thanked the rescue teams to ensure safe evacuation of the child. He said the spirit of teams was highly praiseworthy which led to save Gurkaran’s life.
