Kyiv(Ukraine), 14 May (H.S.):

Russia has conducted a large-scale drone and missile assault across Ukraine. From Wednesday morning until after midnight, Russia unleashed relentless attacks, causing widespread devastation. These strikes resulted in at least 14 deaths and over 80 civilians injured. In the capital Kyiv, a Russian attack caused a residential building to collapse.

Ten people trapped under the debris were rescued. One person was killed, and 16 others were injured. Around 1 a.m., Ukraine's air force issued a nationwide air alert, warning that Russia had deployed MiG-31 bomber aircraft. Every region of the country is within range of ballistic missile attacks.

According to a report by The Kyiv Independent newspaper, Kyiv military administration chief Tymur Tkachenko soon warned that Russian drones were advancing toward the capital and missile strikes posed a potential threat. At 3:08 a.m. local time, powerful explosions rocked Kyiv. Ukraine's air defense systems were seen engaging Russian drones. Between 3:15 a.m. and 3:20 a.m., sounds of explosions from ballistic missile strikes were heard. A short while later, around 3:44 a.m., ballistic missiles roared into action again.

Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated that debris from a downed drone ignited a fire on the roof of a five-story residential building in the Niprovske district, and debris fell on a road in the Holosiivsky district. Drone wreckage landed on an office building and a parking structure. In the Obolonsky district, drone debris struck a 12-story residential building, causing it to catch fire. Local officials reported that a 25-story under-construction building was also targeted. In the Solomiansky district, debris from a Russian drone set a car ablaze.

Russia's army launched a major attack on Ukraine's critical and civilian infrastructure on the afternoon of May 13. In multiple phases of this assault, at least 800 drones targeted several cities. These attacks killed at least 14 people and injured more than 80 others. Following this, Russia conducted fresh strikes after midnight.

President Zelenskyy had previously warned about Russia's drone attacks, stating that missile strikes could also follow. Ukraine's military intelligence agency HUR had already alerted the president that the Russian army was planning to continue attacks using a large number of air- and sea-launched cruise missiles, along with ballistic missiles.
